OVF Programs and Projects

Below is a listing of OVF focus projects that we have determined to be integral to OVF's overall development.

Projects currently in development:

DigitalWorld Forum on Accessible and Inclusive ICT - The consortium brings together a plethora of experience and practical knowledge relevant to the development of low-cost initiatives for Accessible ICT.

Jukwa Srowie Mixed Farmer's Coop - In Jukwa, Ghana, we have funded a process enabling the local farmers cooperative to secure a palm oil processing plant (still under construction). The focus for the next year is to develop integrated farming practices along with a small bio-diesel facility to utilize a portion of the palm oil produced for local energy needs. Future plans are to develop this facility into a center for sustainable agriculture.

OVF Ghana Service Learning Project - The OVF-NTHU Back to the Root Service Learning Project will provide opportunities for students to volunteer to aid OVF effort by conducting necessary research relevant to developing OVI social enterprise component. NTHU Taiwan university students will go to Ghana and do service learning work there.

Winneba Ghana Open Digital Village - This the first Open Digital Village (WODIV) as a early stage Multipurpose Community (Unity) Center (UC) will foster connections with the existing ICT programs at the University the University of Education Winneba, Ghana (UEW), while building on existing and past OVF efforts.

Current Program Development Focus Areas:

Back to the Root Culture and EcoTourism - Program will enable knowledge exchange between cultures. It will involve the development of a ecotourism and workshop program built around Unity Centers. When fully developed people will have a chance to experience African culture and in the process heal from the stresses and traumas of modern life, becoming more effective and productive change agents in creating a sustainable global society.

Open Digital Villages (Holistic ICT for EcoLiving) - Through the Open Digital Village program, research in holistic ICT for Ecoliving such as the DigtalWorld Project will lead to the development of open source and open content best practices for sustainable development in emerging markets.

EcoLiving Solutions - This Complements the Open Digital Villages Program creating an added layer of oneVillage Initiative. While starting up virtually and through network building, this program will eventually be developed into a working holsitic model of sustainability called the Multi-purpose Commuity & Unity Center.

Core Objectives for our Work and Projects in 08
In 2008 we seek to integrate the programs listed above into a comprehensive approach to sustainable development focusing on the devleopment of the village level (rural) economy that includes the deployment of Multipurpose Centers.

Raising money to develop a core infrastucture through the promotion of social enterprises

Deploy relevant appropriate technologies to underserved communities through what we call Multi-purpose Community & Unity Centers

Promote services to underserved communities through whole systems approach

How our Programs and Projects Come Together

oneVillage Foundation Initiative is the central initiative that links all the programs and projects of OVF together as part of a multisectorial /integrated /whole systems approach to sustainable development. The methodology behind this program is a Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) model that emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to community building that includes key human components.

Integrated Knowledge Wheel (Mandala) is used to help evaluate local needs and assets based on each sector or pillar of the IKW.

The Multipurpose Community & Unity Center (UCs) is our capstone project and as such it will eventually house the projects mentioned below as it evolves into a fully fledged ecovillage. UCs are envisioned as working models of an integrated approach to sustainable development. When fully developed each Center will be a model of self-sustainability and self-reliance.

UCs will provide experiential hands-on experiences, as part of a proactive and whole systems platform to promote sustainable development in Africaand beyond. The Centre will promote social enterprise solutions that integrate ICT with sustainable development in both developing and developed regions of the world. We are now planning to set up these centers in each of the three countries we now operate in by the end of 2008.
