OVF Accomplishments

Over the last several years OVF has sought to develop programs as part of a larger integrated approach to sustainable development. Our focus has been to identify local needs, as well as groups interested in working with us to address those needs.

Established Catch IT Young in Ghana in 2002 with support from the Ghanaian government and other NGOS. The role of this program is to promote educate for secondary and high school students through the formation of ICT clubs. This program has evolved into New Academic Year IT School and which is now part of the Winneba Open Digital Village Project.

Through the Sports People that Care Program we have spread the word about the hazards of AIDS through several events. Sports People that Care was launched on World AIDS Day in December of 2002 at the University of Education at Winneba, Ghana.

Provided logistical and financial support for OVF staff to attend various conferences and training workshops. These events were designed to mobilize and support youth oriented ICT4D efforts in Africa. This included the July 2005 WTDC African Regional Meeting and the 2006 Digital World Nigeria/Young Think Tank Club of Rome meeting in Abuja where OVF Country Directors Kafui Prebbie and Olaposi Abiola Represented OVF.

Jukwa Farmer's Coop Project Established - In 2004, OVF Ghana and the Srowie Mixed Use Farmer's Cooperative in Jukwa, Ghana signed an agreement to jointly work together to improve the economic viability of local farming operations in Ghana. This includes construction of a palm oil press for the Farmers Coop valued at $20,000 USD.
