The Role of ICTs
in
Empowering Women, Youth
and Refugees in Tanzania
What is the greatest
asset that the African content has to offer? Its people.
This forum will focus on various human capacity building
efforts from around Tanzania, Africa as well as the
world. At this event we will examine the role of ICT4D
in this process. OVF Tanzania as part of OVF's larger
global effort is seeking to congregate government
officials, NGOs community developers, business leaders,
media professionals and educators towards a concerted
networked effort.
Building capacity in undeserved communities is only
one part of the development puzzle. Improving the
function and reliability of our networks is also crucial
and this must done throughout the policymaking and
implementation chain of global society to meet the
unprecedented challenges of the 21st century.
A central theme of event is the to promote an increased
role for women, youth and refugees in the economy
as well as the civil society. This three day seminar
will seek to move towards not only finding but also
implementing the best possible solutions to harness
human potentials of women, youngsters
and refugees as well as the population as a whole
in Tanzania. |
Background: UNESCO and the
Club of Rome are co-organizing a three-day World
Conference on Harnessing the Potential of ICT for Capacity
Building from 11 to 13 May at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris,
France. The event is one of UNESCO’s thematic meetings
in preparation for the second meeting of the World Summit
on the Information Society (Tunis, Tunisia, 16-18 November
2005).
The Conference will discuss the use of information
and communication technology (ICT), including satellites,
for capacity-building, and its key strategic role for achieving
the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and for building
knowledge societies.
As part of this effort we are organizing a Community
and Network Building Preparatory for the African section of
the World Conference. The results of the event will be Videocasted
through the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN) center
in Tanzania to Paris as well as the other GDLN hubs.
Theme: OVF will contribute to the conference
by initiating a discussion there that explores how existing
best practices can be rapidly adapted/adopted/replicated at
the grassroots level to promote education in emerging economies,
and of course sustainable development in emerging as well
as affluent economies. This includes raising awareness as
to the relevancy of our work among decision makers who will
participate at the conference.
Goals: Demonstrate and further develop oneVillage
Initiative model to enable universities / NGOs / ministries
/ corporations to be the solutions providers, aiming at the
most immediate and direct result on the ground. For more on
this download the NGO
New World Coalition (Word) doc.
