Project Status: As a first step in
this process, OVF will work to assist
Professor Akiwowo in publishing his writing. This will
include Mark
Roest working as an assistant to Professor and finishing
a manuscript
that will be presented to a major publisher. Funds from
this work will go towards the development of the website.
Needs: Funding for Knowledge design,
organization and implementation of GRASSUP NOW Program
in Kenya.

Project Name:
Professor Akiwowo Publishing Project
Location: Work will take place in
theUS and Nigeria to promote and publish Professor Akiwowo's
work. This will include a virtual component whereby
a website will be development to promote his lifework.
Description: We will use a variety
of mediums to promote Professor Akiwowo’s work.
The goal of this effort is to promote the Back to the
Root vision and theme. The effort will be designed not
only to promote professor’s work and ensure his
legacy but also more importantly to inspire and motivate
youth towards a cultural, intellectual and economic
renassaince for Africa (Made in Africa/Nigeria as one
theme) that gives people a renewed sense of pride in
being African. This will include the development of
his substantial unpublished works into several books
and though other media including the Internet. We hope
to gain funds through advances with publishers and to
through his network to develop the Professor Akiwowo
website.
Background: Professor Akiwowo is a
well known scholar who has helped to
document Yoruba culture in Nigeria as a sociologist.
He's spent a significant time in the US teaching, written
three books and has appeared in numerous publications.
As an appreciate of his work we would like to create
this website (e-library) in his honor. For more about
Professor Akiwowo, see his bio.
Project Design and Rationale: The
Professor Akiwowo website will function as an integrated
knowledgebase, that can be used to assist in national
and regional
renaissance initiatives for the promotion and continued
revitalization of African culture. Site will function
as repository of knowledge, of requirements, methods,
players and relationships which can greatly facilitate
development work in Nigeria and other locations. Knowledgebase
will include: musical material; Yoruba heritage; a chronology
of his effort in guiding a national redevelopment effort
and his involvement as a spiritual leader of the revived
Yoruba religion.

Target Groups: This work
will extend beyond sociology scholars and will extend
to
include anyone interested in Yoruba culture, an African
renaissance, or in the re-integration of traditional
culture into modern societies, including members of
social or economic development movements.
