Software Freedom Day in Ghana and Nigeria

On Sept 10, both Ghana and Nigeria participated in Software Freedom Day, which serves to promote open source software as an alternative to proprietary software.

To secure our position with Open Source Federations around the world (FOSSFA), OVF Ghana Director Kafui Prebbie constituted a team of ten students at the University of Education Winneba Ghana (UoE). They underwent Open Source Training at the UoE ICT Center in preparation for this year's Software Freedom Day Celebration.

Goals:

1.

Strengthen our capacity to use of Open Source products and training in developing effective Information Development programs for Ghana and Greater Africa

2.

Demonstrate OVF´s commitment to Open Source federations around the world (at WSIS 05 and beyond).

3.

Initiate a major collaborative project with UoE

The Sept 10 Software Freedom Day Event also led to further training throughout the month of September culminating the in the September 27th Launch of the Winneba Linux User Group.
