This project is being developed and will operate along the lines of a needs based methodology that identifies needs and designs systems that address those needs in a highly integrated way that encourages local self-reliance cultivating this through a process of bootstrapping and self-empowerment. One Village Initiative is an Assets Based Development Model (ABCD) that promotes an expanded ICT4D considering the integration of ICT as an enabler of the key components of a community oriented sustainable development approach. Empowerment Works is a LA based NGO that provides useful information on ABCD (please see their Capacity Building Training & Workshops Page and their Partners in Empowerment Page which describes the multisector partnership component of their assets based approach).
A Primary objective of the project is to promote an integrated approach to development which we believe is key to the realization of human potential and to addressing of world urgent issues tied to fundamental un-sustainability of the current socioeconomic system. This integrated development model is represented on the left in what is called the Integrated Knowledge Wheel.
There are Six (6) pillars in the Initiative and is anticipated to support each other as key pillars for sustainable community development. As the pillars become more integrated with the rest of the activities of the centre, more focus will be put on training and replication.
Field agents trained at the centre will eventually work for a variety of communities and institutions interested in sustainable development, focusing on expanding the scope of the project through demonstration projects that can be considered comprehensive and synergistic in their approach.
The key to our integrated approach to sustainable development is that we build activities at the Unity Centre/Digital Village on the six pillars of the OVI; Education, Health, Culture and Tradition, Governance, Ecology and Economy. |
