Winneba Linux Users Group-WILUG Sept 27 Launch

On 27th September Lecturers, Administrators, IT staff and students will participate in the launch of the Winneba Linux Users Group or WILUG for short. A core of 15 students is now invovled in forming WILUG.

Freebies: Event will include banners, t-shirts, posters, CDs for distribution and minimal local organisational support for transportation, radio air-time, etc.

VIPs: The VC or UEWB will give a short address just to give you-the visitors including D.G. KACE who is already scheduled to speak- the chance to tell us what we are willing to hear.

About WILUG: WILUG is the third tertiary Linex User Group in Ghana. Because of its location at the University of Education Winneba Ghana, teachers when they graduate from the University can take Linux to the rest of the country. Free and Open Source Software is the option. WILUG is designed to promote training and education about the superior performance of FLOSS and Linux Software as compared to proprietary platforms. We believe that widespread application of Open Source software will not only reduce costs for ICT (which is a major consideration particularly in developing countries) deployment but aslo promote more reliable systems that can do more with less. Therefore we believe that the promotion of Linux along with open source will lead to more effectiveness in reducing the digital divide.

Thin Client Demonstration: In conjunction with Maxwell Amuzu of Linux Africa User Group (LAUG), we are preparing between 4-5 computers for the Thin Client demonstration. Thin client machines cost little while having much of the function of normal PCs. Thin clients are one tool which if applied properly can enable us to bridge the digital divide.
