Project
name: unity drums in DharmaGates
Vision:
To reach to the heart of
Silicon Valley by way of cultivating seed of compassion
through chanting, drumming and learning Dharma.
Background: OVF participated
in a world event in 2005 called One
World Beat and we presented 'unity drums'
in 3 countries to honor unity and community life
through traditional drumming traditions of West
Africa. We dedicated the celebration for all children
of the world. The Back
to the Root concept which unity drums is based
on, combines various "indigenous technologies"
such as drumming, singing, dancing and chanting
to promote holistic healing and cultural discovery.
Project Design: The project
consists of three components:
1. |
Chanting - Selections of
mantras to chant and to cultivate compassion
and loving kindness.
OM MA NI PAD ME HUM
OM TARE TUTARE TURE SOHA
[others] |
2. |
Drumming Appreciation - Learn the cultures
of drumming, basic drumming techniques
and to harmonize those with our heart
rhythms. |
3. |
Dharma Teaching - Invitation of Dharma
teachers to teach the meaning of the mantra. |
We will learn to coordinate chanting
with drumming. The objective is to experience
harmony and peace within oneself and with the
group. We aim at producing digital recording of
our results as a learning and sharing tool for
teaching others. The recording will also be posted
onto Dharma Gates Center and oneVillage Foundation's
websites to bring our peace and hope to the global
community via Internet technologies.
Goals:
1. |
To cultivate compassion
and inner peace. |
2. |
To learn to listen and to voice harmony
through drumming. |
3..
|
To experience diversity in unity.
|
4. |
To expand the knowledge and understanding
of global youth networks for world peace
and sustainable development. |
Times:
[TBD] [Weekends/weekdays?]
Partners:
Target Groups: Youth
and community members who share the inspiration
to build peace and sustainable future.

The image here is the mantra
'om mani padme hung.' Notice it
has a round shape just like the
surface of a drum! |
