The Global Women’s Leadership Center

The Global Women’s Leadership Center is focused on how women entrepreneurs in developing countries can obtain access to new technology, business education and contacts. As a part of the Leavey School of Bussiness in Santa Clara University, GWLC is developing a curriculum to promote access to Silicon Valley resources for people in underserved communities all over the globe.

 
   

 

MS lab

Minciu Sodas is an open laboratory for serving and organizing independent thinkers. We will be working with MS to design software for effective use of marginal Internet access as well as organizing software developers in Africa, overcoming the corporate wall that keeps out individual innovators. Key to this is overcoming the separation of strategic and philanthropic arms and to organize open laboratory for open investigation, self-learning, etc.

 
   

 

Anywhere Books

Print-on-demand is a natural application for the developing world. Anywhere Books is a US-based nonprofit dedicated to deploying mobile print on demand solutions for development. Using common office technology and digitize books and information, we develop "digital bookmobiles" that can bring targeted information where it's needed.

 
   

 

WorldVistA

WorldVistA is an open source technology company that is using the MUMPS programming language to further deveop OpenVistA. OpenVistA is a powerful hospital information management system that can also manage community health information, and be repurposed for other database needs. WorldVistA is taking it open source prepared for a global roll-out, with a package of services that will include efficient translation to other languages, an effective help desk escalation system and ways to quickly strip out content not needed for other applications of the database functionality.

The Center for New Futures has been an integral part of the founding of the Global Women Leadership Center. They are committed to empowering organizations to design new and extraordinary futures.

 
   

 

Open House/Farm Project

The Open House project aims to collect and disseminate a large set of knowledge aimed at implementing best practice in the production of housing and the built environment, expressed in the form of a training program for ethical entrepreneurs with a primary goal of sustainability and regenerative design. The audience is social and civic entrepreneurs dedicated to regenerative development, as well as any individuals interested in increasing their participation in the house building process.

transitplaza™ LLC (tp) is a California Limited Liability Corporation that is working to provide the alternative transportation, eco-housing, and land planning and development aspects of sustainable eco-villages that help preserve the Earth’s resources and indigenous cultures within the United States & Internationally. oneVillage Foundation is currently working with transitplaza to develop Group Rapid Transit Systems (GRT).

 
   

 

AcrossWorld Communications

AcrossWorld is a venture funded, Silicon Valley-based company with the "know-how" and the "know-who" to tap into and accelerate emerging markets, using strategic deployment of information and communication technology based solutions. Founded in 1998, AcrossWorld is now operating in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Dominican Republic. AcrossWorld incubates new solutions appropriate to developing countries, as well as consults, coaches, and educates to grow the overall market through multiple efforts.

Connecting teachers to resources and each other to close the education divide

Teachers Without Borders works to close the education divide, particularly in developing countries, in order to build self-reliance, health, and capacity. It is a non-denominational, non-profit, international NGO which derives its funding from contributions and grants.

 
   

 

Humanitus Foundation
Empowering indigenous communities and individuals through appropriate education

Humanitus is a community-specific foundation that works within communities at all levels to achieve the shared goal of empowering indigenous communities and individuals through appropriate education. This is achieved by utilising locally-produced FM radio broadcasts and videos, supported by information technology, community seminars and workshops.

 
   

 

Bootstrap Institute

The Bootstrap Institute was conceived by Dr. Douglas C. Engelbart to further his lifelong career goal of boosting individual and organizational ability to better address problems that are complex and urgent.* It is along this chosen career path that he became prominent as a pioneer of the digital age. He garnered fame especially through his invention of the computer mouse and was the first to use the cathode-ray tube for the display of text, of graphics and of the mouse pointer (the monitor as we know it today).
