Field agents connect the human network

The Field Agent is the seed of the community healing process, reaching out to others and bringing them together. The Field Agent has a tool kit designed to help break through barriers of fear, alienation and ignorance and replace them with trust, collaboration and knowledge.

The first tool is relationships. The Field Agent naturally, and with a will to do so, makes friends among all people. The Field Agent shows love, strength and wisdom in her or his bearing, smile and voice, opening an inner door in others. When the Field Agent travels to bring healing and revitalization to a community, she or he is usually accompanied by old and newfound friends who know the people they are going to see, and who want to help create the trust that is needed to begin, by sharing their trust in the Field Agent with those who trust them.

The second tool is the digital video camera, with batteries, solar cells and memory cartridges sufficient to last for weeks at a time in remote areas. The video camera brings magic to the moment, telling the subject that from that moment forth, they matter to the Field Agent and all who share in the videos. They are now seen, and their truth is heard. Thus begins empowerment!

The third tool the Field Agent carries is knowledge – and access to the vast reserves of knowledge that are already and will be made available through the Internet. Field Agents self-select through their wide range of natural interests, and great ability to learn how things in life work, how they fit together into systems, and ways to harness their value for humans – and the natural communities they depend on. In addition, the Field Agent uses proven processes to help communities to unite, heal, work together, and plan the revitalization of their economies, creating Prosperity.

The fourth tool is the Internet-enabled ICT platform, often made of recycled components, to join hundreds of thousands of villages with each other and the rest of the world.

It sounds outlandish to some but in India local farmers are not becoming traders. The e-Choupal system is empowering local farmers through an online trading system that allows them to make trades to maximize the price they get for their crops. We see such programs as key tools in empowering the bottom up economy.

Software solutions by companies like GeoInsight can transform a Palm OS® 3.5 or higher device into a versatile field mapping and utility kit. What is truly revolutionary about these technologies is that they are flexible, modular, easy-to-use, and compatible with inexpensive hardware devices.
