Accomplishments

From 2004 to present, we have made the effort in Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya. Our operation in Kenya was burned down during the civic turmoil as a result of the election in 2008. We have not yet been able to rebuild the Center in our old way. We are seeking Kenyan and global networks to engage for a new process with the current tools and practices while we contribute to the NETWORKED EFFECT and RESOURCES that can empower people’s lives.

In Nigeria, we are currently working on research for mobile applications in education and health care in Nigeria. We are seeking industry partners to engage in such research for ‘zero time’ collaboration from design, development and deployment.

In Ghana, we have established a Open Digital Village in Winneba with operations in the areas of training, cybercafe services and community wireless technologies. In April, 2010, through nearly a decade’s investment and knowledge sharing, our Ghana team has established a for-profit social enterprise to extend the ICT4D services to the growing needs in businesses and institutions around the globe.

Below is a list of specific accomplishments that we have been involved in since our founding:

  1. UnityDrum Taiwan - UnityDrum Events have been developed in several locations including Taiwan, Ghana and USA. It now is primarily operating in Taiwan as that is the base of OVF’s founder Joy Tang who is also the leading force behind UnityDrum. Over the last two years it has been a major component of the Ecotour Program both in prep for the field trip to Ghana and also during the trip itself.
  2. Winneba Open Digital Village - Established the first Open Digital Village in Ghana in Dec 08, building on our participation at the Air Jaldi 2006 Conference in Dharamsala, India. The conference focused on a convergence of open source hardware hackers who led the way to promote free and open source platforms for community wireless networks. Our plan is to eventually expand to several other locations around the world with a focus in Sub-Saharan Africa and to create Global Open Digital Village Network.
  3. Event and Workshop Facilitation - Using the oneVillage Initiative approach, we organize various events and conferences to promote similarly aligned ICT and Sustainability initiatives
  4. Provided ICT Education for Youth though Catch IT Young and now via New Academic Year IT School – With the formation and development of the WODiV Catch IT Young was rebranded as the New Academic Year IT School as a subset program of the WODiV Project
  5. Conference Organization and Consulting – Aided in organization of several global conferences and Events including AirJaldi and Open Hardware Taiwan as well as two oneVillage Community Day events in 2009
  6. oneVillage Ecotour Service and Learning Program - Organized two Ecotour projects in 08 and 09 with an additional one planned for 2010
  7. Launched ICT consulting Venture (1Village Africa) - Spun off ICT consulting venture in Africa called 1Village Africa from OVF Ghana Winneba Open Digital Village efforts and projects in Ghana. The enterprise founded by Kafui A. Prebbie and a team of ICT professionals is focusing on consulting regarding the use of ICTs in rural Africa and their set up, management and installation.
