8 Tips In Keeping Your Spine Strong And Healthy For Life.

Posted on June 22, 2021

The spine is a crucial part of the body that keeps the body upright. It is responsible for supporting the body from the neck to the back and down to the pelvis. Moreover, the spinal cord, which is essential in the nervous system, also passes through the spine.

Due to old age, lifestyle, illnesses, and other factors, the spine can get weak and can suffer from injuries. In order to keep the spine strong and healthy for life, spine.md has some helpful tips to take note of:

1) Enhance your posture

If your posture is poor or improper, it can induce unnecessary tension, trauma, pain, or damage to your spine. This is because the weight is not properly distributed along the spine’s discs and vertebrae. Therefore, you should always keep a good body posture or enhance it in order to prevent spinal injuries or problems.

2) Exercise or do physical activities regularly

One of the tried and tested ways to take care and empower the spine is through regular exercise or physical activities. These will decrease joint and muscle tensions and stiffness as well. If you are not sure which type of exercise or physical activity you can do, you can go and consult a doctor or physical therapist.

3) Eat healthy

When you choose to eat healthy whole foods, you nourish your body with the nutrients that it needs in order to be strong, healthy, and fit. In order to take care of your spine, you should regularly eat foods that have vitamin D and calcium.

4) Manage your weight

If you become overweight, it will put your spine to so much tension, pressure, exertion, and pain. These could lead to spinal injuries that can be painful and problematic for the long term. It is then best to keep a healthy weight in order to take care of your spine.

5) Boost your core strength

Strengthening your core muscles will provide the needed support for your spine. Your lower back muscles as well as your abdominal muscles can help in decreasing the weight on your spine.

6) Stop smoking

Smoking cigarettes has a lot of negative effects on your body. One of which is spinal problems caused by the deposition and build up of toxic substances such as tar, nicotine, butane, and ammonia in your bones and entire body.

7) Handle stress well

Stress often leads to tension and cramps on the neck, back, and shoulders. This directly affects your posture and your spine. In order to prevent this from happening, learn how to handle your stress by improving your habits and lifestyle.

8) Stretch and take breaks

If you are working hours and hours in front of a computer, you should always remember to do frequent short breaks to walk and stretch out your body. This will surely ease the stress and tension on your spine.
