Project Name: Grassroots Underpinnings: Poverty, Nutrition, ODL/ICTs and Women

Vision: Bringing together diverse groups to develop effective solutions for Kenya through ICT.

Location: 4 Projects in Kenya as part of the COL-Kenya/GRASSUP NOW Consortium.

Project Design and Rationale: GRASSUP NOW is a collaborative program that seeks to demonstrae how ICT can reduce poverty and encourage sustainable human economic development in Kenya. Still in the concept stage this joint venture was designed to function in a complementary way to COL-Kenya which was formed as a consortium of Kenyan and US NGOs. COL Kenya successfully obtained funding from the Canadian based Commonwealth of Learning Program in 2004 to fund the purchase of computers to promote ICT open and distance learning. One of the goals was also to create GRASSUP NOW is a multi-purpose program that seeks to develop innovative learning and replication tools to build capacity in open and distance learning with a focus on environmental, nutritional, agricultural and health issues.

Goals:
1. Integrate local development projects with ICT
2. Provide practical ICT solutions for underserved communities

Project Name: Community Knowledge Development System

Vision: Field Agents linked up through a global ICT network that effectively mobilizes the world community to address world urgent issues at the local level in underserved communities.

Location: Pilot projects to located in unspecified communities throughout Africa.

Project Design and Rationale: A central part of the oneVillage Initiative will be the development of a mobile ICT network, linked real time, electronically in the field. We propose an experiment to test out our hypothesis that giving people in the field real time connections will leading to a rapid increase in innovation and economic development. The ICT field agent teams will function as collectors, preliminary processors and retrievers of information from knowledge bases as well as human networks.

Goals:
1. Integrate local development projects with ICT
2. Provide practical ICT solutions for underserved communities.

Target Groups: People in underserved communities.

Needs: Funding for Knowledge design, organization and implementation through field agent teams on the ground.

Project: Unity Center Ecovillages

Proposal Design and Rationale: With the proper funding the development of Unity Centers will include living quarters that are designed out of consideration for human as well as ecological needs using local materials, solar and other renewable technologies as well as featuring organic food. The tour will include both enthralling experiences in the natural environment, and a deep introduction to one or more human communities.

Goals:
1. Promoting eco-living and sustainable development
2. Expand economic opportunities for Africans, by providing earnings to support the development of local economy.
3. preserve local cultural and ecological resources for future generations
