Vision: The effective use of sports to win
the fight against AIDS.
Background: On AIDS
Day 2002 students at University of Education Winneba Ghana
(UEWG) played against each other in a series of events. This
included the interviewing of several AIDS experts on the OVF
Ghana Youth Intellect (Ghana) Program
which is a comprehensive youth Radio interactive program on
HIV/AIDS.
Rationale: Sports People that Care aims
to make effective use of sports to win the fight against AIDS.
This program uses the popularity of football as a way to promote
health and teamwork. Specifically the program will be designed
to raise awareness about AIDS. Ticket receipts will be used
to treat and care for people infected with AIDS as well as
towards prevention efforts.
The football match up will be used to address social issues
relating to AIDS encouraging prevention through the distribution
of free condoms while raising money for AIDS treatment and
education. Plans are being made for a match between Liberty
and Heart of Oaks; two leading Football teams in Ghana
Project Proposal Design: We will use the
popularity of football as a way to promote health and teamwork.

for people infected with AIDS as well as towards prevention
efforts.
Goals:
1. These events will be used to address social issues relating
to AIDS.
2. Raise money for AIDS treatment and education.
Target Groups and Beneficiaries: The
Support For Infected and Affected
(SUFIA) is a project specifically
designed to identify and provide drugs for the HIV infected
and basic human needs for the HIV affected. This will include
Food, Educational and Health needs, Clothes, Shelter, etc.
Any proceeds from the Sports People that Care Program will
be distributed to those in need through SUFIA. |
