Scheduled Participants:

  • Sylvie Siyam of PROTEGE QV (Promotion of Technologies that Guarantee a better Environment and Quality of Life, "vie" in French), will discuss how their ICT augmented projects in Cameroon promote the use of radio for rural women. There are also pages on related projects in Cameroon at the TakingITGlobal and the WorldWide Wildlife Fund sites.

  • Francis Anyona will discuss two ICT-related projects a group of us are working on with the (GRASSUP and E-SAP) as well as his own work with Ikonzo Musanda Self-Help Group in W. Kenya. coalition - composed of the CISSO/OVF-Kenya, KAIPPG, Ikonzo Musanda Self-Help Group, Interactive Learning Networks, UZIWATA-Mediguard - has sought to develop GRASSUP through a grant obtained from the Canadian based foundation, The Commonwealth of Learning

  • Kennedy Onyango of CISSO/OVF-Kenya just finished giving presentations on radio at a development workshop in South Africa. He will give us an update on the conference.

  • James Onyango, Exec. Dir. of KAIPPG Kenya has recently returned from the Netherlands and Tanzania, where he presented KAIPPG's radio and ICTs-enabled GenARDIS project (this grant program focuses on "women, agriculture, and technology"). An article on the project is here.

  • Janet Feldman, Director of KAIPPG/International (one of its creators), will speak about KAIPPG's ICTs-related activities. GRASSUP and GenARDIS, and may discuss the work of other GenARDIS projects (all of which use radio and other ICTs). For more about the GenARDIS projects go here.

  • Stan Tuvako, a long-time KAIPPG volunteer who has worked with many development, youth, and HIV/AIDS groups in Nakuru, Kenya, will speak about his "Youth Awareness Perspective", a community-service, life skills and health-oriented youth program with an ICTs and global component.   • Neema Mgana is co-founder and director of African Regional Youth Initiative (ARYI). She will talk about their extensive work with African youth on issues such as HIV/AIDS, education, and development (Ikonzo Musanda, CISSO, and KAIPPG are all ARYI members). 

  • Jennifer Staple of Unite for Sight has indicated that a volunteer will speak about their eye-health programs in Africa. 

  • August Kowero, the National ICTs Coordinator in Tanzania, will speak about the Tanzanian program.

  • Henry Migingo will discuss his contribution to oneVillage.biz's ICT oriented sustainable economic development program for Kenya and greater Africa.

  • Ed Cherlin of oneVillage Foundation, "the Simputer Evangelist", will speak about open-source learning, the Simputer, and related issues (perhaps a Star Trek story or two!). Go here to see his blog.

  • Rick Nelson of SolaRoof will speak about the SolaRoof project and sustainable development.

  • Dennis Reinhardt (of OVF/Keyhole) will talk about the role of ICTs like for example GIS in facilitating sustainable development in underserved communities.

  • Mark Jeff/Joy/Mark of oneVillage Foundation will discuss their programs and stress the importance of an integrated approach to capacity building in underserved communities that addresses world urgent issues like HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs in a proactive manner. ICT augmented programs have a role to play, promoting not only sustainable economic growth but diversity, focusing on areas such as agriculture, crafts, consulting/replication and ICT business incubation services.

  • Franz Nahrada and Ingo Lantschner have been involved with a ICT project in Cameroon
    participation in Project Cyber-Cafe for Cameroon working with Actwid Kongadzem (see PDF for detailed description), in Cameroon. Through the Globally Integrated Village Environment (GIVE) project Franz and his team has sought to communicate the need for more integrated approaches in relation to community oriented development.

  • Andrius Kulikauskas of Minciu Sodas Laboratory (a think-tank focusing on sustainable development and a love for "ideas" of all kinds, and ICTs-related development tools).

  • Shingai Nyoka is involved with the AMARC-Africa (affiliated with The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters) communications program. Shingai, who is based in South Africa, will discuss AMARC-Africa, and their first Roundtable session on Community Media for Sustainable Development on November 21, in Marrakesh, Morocco.

  • Joseph George is the Technology Services Manager, for the Southern Africa NGO Network (SANGONeT).

  • Linje Manyozo, is author of "Blantyre Flea Market and Malawi's Cemeteries of Development: The Power of Community Consultation." Go here for more.

  • Tafadzwa Mupfawa, is involved with the Dzidzai Foundation, Zimbabwe a nonprofit which helps women and youth, and focuses on development, HIV/AIDS and health, education, ICTs and arts. Go here for SAFAIDS, an HIV/AIDS organization working in ZW and Africa and more.

  • Victor Odongo of St. Anne's Home in W. Kenya (Kisumu, Kenya). He is collaborating with Cherish our Children International (COCI) to develop St. Anne's into a model family style group home and training facility that other local groups can replicate. He will talk about their work (helping orphans) and perhaps some of his creative work (music, films).
  • Zipporah Wanaswa will talk about WiRED International program in Kenya.
